Our school nurse, Ms. Farah Ali from the
Simon Fraser Health Unit, is in the school Thursday mornings and can be
reached at other times at the Health Unit at 605-777-6740, or directly at
604-777-6717. Ms. Farah Ali will be administrating the immunization program and is available to
address basic health concerns. However, please notify the school
directly if your child has
any serious medical condition. |

IMMUNIZATIONS |
|
During the school
year, immunizations for diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio,
measles, mumps and rubella will be offered to all unprotected children
from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Grade 6 students will also be offered
Hepatitis B vaccinations in the fall and again in the spring.
(No child
will be immunized without parental written consent).
Please ensure that the school has the most up-to-date record of your
child's immunization. |

VISION AND HEARING SCREENING |
|
Screening of the
Kindergarten students will be done with a team from the Health Unit in the
fall. Parents will be notified if their child is in need of a
complete examination. Other students can be screened upon request
throughout the year. |

|
|
DENTAL SCREENING |
|
Dental screening of all
Kindergarten students will occur later in the year by the Health
Unit. Other children may be screened by parental request. Some
free treatment is available through the UBC Faculty of Dentistry. |

|
|
DEAF/HEARING SUPPORT |
|
Mr. Bruce Wong provides support
to students who are deaf or hard of hearing and provides direct and
consultative services to those students who have a diagnosed hearing loss,
to their parents and to school staff. |

|
|
VISION SUPPORT |
|
Children with vision
difficulties will be referred to Ms. Roxanne Demeyer, our district vision
specialist. |
|
|
|
SPEECH/LANGUAGE SUPPORT |
|
Our Speech-Language Pathologist, Ms. Megan
Kleisinger, supports students in developing communication
skills. Assessment of students' communication skills is provided
and, where necessary, intervention is offered in the areas of language
disorder and delay, articulation, voice and speech fluency. Students
may be seen on a direct or consultative basis in collaboration with
classroom teachers and parents. |
