Brian's winter By: Gary Paulson I think
this book is a winner because it was based on The hatchet. In the Hatchet,
A boy named Brian got rescued in the summer, this book is a book based
on the Hatchet, and the author decided to writer a book about what would
happen if Brian get rescued in the summer and he had to survive in the
cold, north Canadian winter. The way Gary Paulson, the author, described
a survival story was exciting, the words he wrote were descriptive. I could
see a picture in my head of what is happening and understand it more.
Brian
made a more lasting shelter, he realized winter was approaching when it
started raining for days, the weather conditions were getting cold and
chilly. The survival pack ran out, he was on his last portions of coffee
. Brian gathered the last of the tree branches that hasn't been soaked
from the rain for the winter with his hatchet. Brian missed his mom a lot,
he imagined her face in his mind. Brian made some arrows so he could catch
a bigger animal to survive. A black bear came for the food, it couldn't
get it, and so it hit Brian repeatedly. Brian got minor injuries from the
incident.
Brian woke up one day and found that the world outside was different, it was bright white! He thought winter is here, he had to see what it was like outside. He saw a hare outside running on top of the snow as himself sinks in every step he took, he decided to make a snowshoe out of rabbit skin. It made him comfortable inside. He was living on the moose he had caught a few days ago. One day he was outside doing his regular routine, getting food the weather became warmer. He had heard pop sounds, he went to see and saw a Cree trapping family. The man told him that they go hunting every mid December, within a week, a bush plane came and took Brian back to his family. |
