Group Integrated Short-term Program 2012
For Elementary and Middle School Students
The International Education Program of New Westminster School District will provide students from Grade 1 to Grade 8 with the opportunity to learn academic English and experience Canadian education on a short-term basis.

The students will be grouped by age, grade and English ability and will be in a class with their own teacher. The school will provide a "class to class" integrated experience between the Group Integrated Short-term Program students and the local students. The students will be placed into a designated elementary or middle school from January to February, 2012.
 
Program includes:
  • Orientation and English assessment.
  • Academic English Program in a group format.
  • Integration into learning activities with local Canadian students. The integration level of each participating student will vary depending upon the student's grade and level of English.
  • Written anecdotal assessment by classroom teacher.
  • Certificate of Completion.
  • Supervision and coordination by New Westminster School District staff.
 
Sample Program Schedule:
Monday to Friday (exact times can vary a little with each school)
  • Morning: Academic English Program
  • Afternoon: Integration into regular classes (Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Physical Education, Fine Arts, etc)
 
School Placement:
  • Students will be placed in a grade according to their age and birth date.
  • Schools will be determined by availability of space.
  • The School District reserves the right to make the final school placement.
  • The School District reserves the right to determine the Group Integrated Short-term Program class structure, including grade levels per class and the right to determine the amount of integration by participating school.
 
Accommodation:
  • Students from Grade 1 to Grade 5: must be accompanied by a parent or be in a homestay arranged by the parents or designate.
  • Grade 6 and 8 students: can apply to be accepted into our Homestay Program, and Homestay policies will apply.
