Long Term Programs New Westminster Secondary School (NWSS) Students The International Education Program Office provides long-term academic studies for students from Grades 1-12 (ages 6-18). We have several long-term programs, allowing students to study for one semester, one year, or to complete high school. The regular school year begins every September and ends in June. However, the secondary school (Grades 8-12) operates on a semester system, which means international students may enter the school in either September or February. Long-term students have a deep immersion experience. Their spoken and written English improves rapidly, and they become comfortable with the Canadian lifestyle, culture and education system. In addition to a first-rate education, the International Education Program offers students many opportunities to join in school service clubs, recreational activities and sports teams. Our long-term programs provide a balance of academic study and school activities to ensure students enjoy a complete education experience.
